Calderon indictment could affect other races, supermajority
With a 177-run lead from the first innings, South Africa shrugged off the loss of four second-innings wickets to reach 192-4 at stumps. Amla backed up a bowling attack that took six Australian wickets in just over a session at the start of the day to roll the tourists out for 246 in reply to South Africa’s 423. Seamers Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander ended with three wickets each and South Africa was in control from the time the dangerous David Warner edged behind for 70 in the day’s fifth over. Deal to end Ukraine unrest appears to show Viktor Yanukovich the exit
Late in the day, it also amended legislation making it likely that the president’s longtime political rival, Yulia Tymoshenko , will be freed from prison, where she is serving a seven-year term for abuse of power, a charge regarded by many Western governments as political retribution. If freed, the charismatic former prime minister with the trademark blond braid would almost certainly emerge as the leading figure among opposition politicians, who have proved unable to control the crowds of their supporters. Addressing thousands of protesters late Friday, one of those opposition leaders, former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko , apologized for shaking Yanukovich’s hand after signing the peace deal. “I am doing my best to prevent bloodshed,” he told the crowd. “I am doing my best to make this gang go.” Along with Klitschko, Oleg Tyagnibok and Arseny Yatsenyuk signed the accord for the opposition. The Polish and German foreign ministers and a high-ranking French diplomat witnessed the signing. “In these tragic days when Ukraine suffered such heavy losses, when people died on both sides of the barricades, I consider it my duty in solemn memory of the slain to state that there is nothing more important than human life,” Yanukovich said on his website after the signing. “There are no such steps which we ought not to take together to restore peace in Ukraine.” Yanukovich found himself unable to navigate the sharp division between Ukraine’s western regions, which lean toward the rest of Europe, and its eastern areas, inclined toward Moscow. He rejected an association with the European Union in favor of closer economic ties with Moscow, infuriating many in the country, who converged on Kiev, the capital, and launched the protest movement in November.

Jeffrey Hubbard Found Guilty In Death Of Usher’s Stepson
Deals aren’t about the economics, they’re about users and momentum. Worried that its growth is slowing, Facebook saw WhatsApp as a rocket it needed to ride even though the destination — how it will integrate with Facebook and make money — remains unknown. And we’re in the midst of a boom, not a bust. The WhatsApp deal defines this era because it’s the most ambitious attempt so far by a dominant valley company to fend off a future in which it’s no longer dominant, an issue that worries all the giants of tech these days. “It’s equally quixotic,” said Michael S. Malone, who wrote “Bill and Dave: How Hewlett and Packard Built the World’s Greatest Company.” The valley is still getting its bearings with the price tag for WhatsApp.

JR Motorsports makes Nationwide push with Chase Elliott, Regan Smith
Calderon and former Assemblyman Tom Calderon on Friday initially drew a muted response from colleagues in the Legislature who huddled behind closed doors to decide what to do. The Senate Democratic Caucus scheduled an emergency meeting by teleconference Friday afternoon, and Senate leader Darrell Steinberg declined comment until he had a chance to meet with his members. More than two hours after the indictments, the only public comment had come from Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens), a leading critic of the Capitol culture. Todays action by the US Attorney casts a shadow of corruption and greed over our government and all who serve as elected officials, Garcia said. Sen. Calderon, 56, was charged Friday with accepting $100,000 in bribes, as well as plane trips, gourmet dinners and trips to golf resorts, in exchange for action on legislation involving film tax credits and workers’ compensation. Tom Calderon, 59, was charged with being part of a money laundering conspiracy involving his brother. The indictments could also have fallout for the political aspirations of other family members. Their brother, former Sen. Charles Calderon is a candidate this year for L.A. County Superior Court judge. He has distanced himself from his siblings in recent months. Charles’ son, Assemblyman Ian Calderon, is running for reelection to the Assembly in June.

Workers harvest the pods and split them open with machetes, removing the cocoa beans, which are coated in a white fruity pulp. The pulp is left to ferment over several days, warming the beans and causing them to lose their bitter flavor; they are then dried out in the sun. Cocoa farmers, many of whom work on small family-run plantations of just a few hectares, then take their beans to the local market. The beans are bought by traders or middle-men who sell them to wholesalers; the wholesalers sell them on in bulk to large cocoa companies. This means that the farmers see only a tiny proportion of the profits from the finished chocolate sold in shops around the world. A worker checks the condition of cocoa beans to make sure they are free of mold, insect damage and disease. The beans are checked and graded according to quality and condition before being packed ready for shipping. Sacks of beans are stored in warehouses in the Ivory Coast, before being shipped to chocolate makers around the world. Ships loaded with their cargoes of cocoa beans, bound for chocolate manufacturers in Europe and the U.S. Once they arrive at their destination, the beans are processed into nibs, cocoa liquor and cocoa butter, before being made into the chocolate we buy in stores around the world. Cocoa-nomics: Why chocolate really doesn’t grow on trees
Bryan obviously intends to keep that tradition alive with the upcoming EP Spring Break 6 Like We Aint Ever. The mini-album is presently set to hit retail on March 11. According to Taste of Country, Luke Bryan tends to keep his Spring Break EPs fun and a bit lighter than his full-length releases. The singer said he pens the tunes with college kids and vacationers in mind. The songs for this project came together so fast. These special EPs all began as a way to get new music out to the fans between studio projects. I feel like year after year we get a little bit better at writing for this. I think with these new songs I would be proud to put them on any album we release, the country music star said. Bryan added, We kind of write em with college kids and Spring Break and that whole party theme in mind. I think its fun to put out songs just to get some new music out there for fans and more opportunities for them to have different types of music from. To support the upcoming release of Spring Break 6 Like We Aint Ever, Luke Bryan will perform a couple of concerts in Panama City Beach, Florida next month. Fans who want to help the singer celebrate the return of spring should seriously consider getting tickets for the shows at Spinnakers Beach Club on March 11 and 12. Chances are some of the songs from the upcoming EP will find their way onto the set list during his shows this summer. Luke Bryan is preparing to take his music on the road later this year, a tour that will reportedly include three stadium shows .

Elliott watched carefully and listened closely this year when his dad tested with him at Daytona International Speedway. “I figured out real quick why he’s so good here,” Chase Elliott said. “The way he understands the air is really important, especially at these plate races just manipulating the air and putting it to your advantage. He does a really good job at that.” Earnhardt will run a part-time schedule in the No. 88, giving the team additional stability and familiarity that might have been lacking in 2013. “We had things we were hitting the reset button on a little bit,” Smith said. “We were making it better. There was a lot of personnel turnover going into the season. There was a lot of meshing of personalities and getting things to where they flowed and operated the way we wanted them to. … It’s contagious when you walk through the shop.

Luke Bryan Giving Fans A ‘Spring Break’ This March
By Emily Blake A Georgia man was convicted of homicide by vessel on Thursday (February 20) for the death of Usher’s stepson Kile Glover in a Jet Ski accident. In addition to the homicide conviction, Jeffrey S. Hubbard was also found guilty of serious injury by vessel, reckless operation of a vessel, unlawful operation of a personal watercraft and a boat traffic violation, the Associated Press has confirmed. Glover and another victim were struck by a Jet Ski on Lake Lanier, near Atlanta, in the summer of 2012. Glover suffered serious head injuries , and more than two weeks after the accident, the 11-year-old was removed from life support. Hubbard was reportedly a friend of Tameka Foster, Glover’s mother and Usher’s ex-wife. Following the accident, police said drugs or alcohol were not involved. Glover was laid to rest on July 27, 2012, in a ceremony attended by many members of Atlanta’s musical community, including Ludacris, Jazze Pha and Phaedra Parks from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Usher Raymond V and Kile Glover Photo: Raymond-Foster family
